Introduction
Technology is only as powerful as the community that understands and builds upon it. In March 2024, I had the honor of being a speaker at ELI5: Blockchain Night Login, an event organized by Night Login DTETI FT UGM—one of the most vibrant IT communities on our campus.
Alongside Guntur Dharma Putra, I spent the evening breaking down the complexities of blockchain technology for a room full of enthusiastic students. The goal was simple: "Explain It Like I'm 5" (ELI5), turning abstract cryptographic concepts into relatable, practical knowledge.

Demystifying the Ledger
My talk focused on making blockchain approachable. Instead of diving straight into consensus algorithms, I started with the "Why": Why am I personally obsessed with this field compared to other IT disciplines?
The answer lies in trust and transparency. I discussed how blockchain isn't just about cryptocurrency, but about creating systems where security is baked into the architecture, not just added as an afterthought.
Key Topics I Shared:
- The Basics: What is a blockchain, and how does it differ from a traditional database?
- The Journey: My personal experience in the Web3 ecosystem—what inspired me, the hurdles I faced, and how my research projects helped solidify my understanding.
- Future Potential: How industries beyond finance (like healthcare and supply chain) are being revolutionized by transparent, immutable ledgers.
- Security and Efficiency: Practical examples of how blockchain reduces friction and increases trust in digital interactions.
Bridging Theory and Practice
One of the most rewarding parts of the session was the Q&A. Students were curious about the real-world application of the theories they learn in class. I was able to share specific insights from my work at Sumbu Labs and my internship at Kemdikbudristek, showing that blockchain is moving from experimental to enterprise-grade.

The Power of Community
Events like the Blockchain Night Login are vital for fostering innovation. I'm deeply grateful to the Night Login team for creating a space where students can explore emerging technologies without fear. Seeing so many students eager to dive into the Web3 world reinforces my belief that the future of technology in Indonesia is in very capable hands.
Thank you to everyone who attended and participanted in the insightful discussions. Let's keep building!
